There are some of you out there who haven't made the leap and started gardening. There may be many of reasons for that. But if you subscribe to USL you probably like the idea, but don't feel like you have enough time and don't know what to grow. I always suggest that beginners start by growing their favorite herbs. Herbs don't need any special soil or special attention and have little or no pests or diseases. For those of you in a time crunch, using garden soxx are a quick way to get started. You'll be getting your hands a little dirty and entering the wonderful world of gardening. In the video I plant perennial herbs like oregano and parsley.
Basil is a favorite in my kitchen so I planted two varieties: Genovese basil and Lemon basil. Using the garden soxx, I was able to plant double the amount that I normally would in a 4x4 raised bed. The soil inside the garden soxx is high in compost and beneficial nutrients that the herb plants can easily access. The plants will eventually grow and cover the gardensoxx from view. You can also spread a layer of mulch over the soxx around the plants, just for the look. The soil high in compost retains water very well and your garden is weed free without mulch. Please watch the video. It will make you a believer.
