The Garden Girl

This year in my spot on the planet, New England, April is off to a chilly start, and we even had a surprise April Fool's Day blizzard!  But as the days get longer you can start to see those tell-tale signs of Spring. Trees are budding, crocuses are already in full bloom, and in honor of Spring, my hellebores are blooming...I’ll just be cleaning up in the garden for most of the month and tending to my seedlings which are in full swing.  There’s a lot to do out in the garden.  Mostly gathering twigs and other debris and pruning old growth from my perennials.

Three Unique Ways to Grow Your Own Potatoes

It’s that time again gardeners; time to plant potatoes.

The Potato plant is a hardy and versatile plant that produces a lot of food in a small amount of space. Potatoes are formed out of the tuber that grows on the plant. In order for the tuber to grow into a potato it cannot be exposed to light. These tubers grow above the seed potato. In order for potatoes to grow as the plant grows you must mound around the plant to prevent any light getting to the tubers.
