The Garden Girl

Happy 2011!

I hope your new year is going well so far.  There’s nothing to do in the garden this time of year, but it’s a busy planning time for gardeners.  I’m still working out my plan, but it’s going to include a lot of flowers, heirloom vegetables and historic plants.  I plan on working on my front yard this year and incorporating lots of native plants and experimenting more with topiary hedges. I can’t wait to dig in.

This double issue of Urban Sustainable Living Magazine includes articles by Shawna Coronado that details how she designed her front yard. You’ll also read about how to lift up your work place this winter with indoor plants.  Not only will it bring up morale in the office, but it will also purify the air!  There’s even a story for apartment dwellers that have a balcony and want start a container garden.  I also hope you enjoy the Windflower Photo Essay by Jonas Andreasson that includes information on the perennial, Anemone.

To start off the new year we have a contest where you can win my newest dvd Square Foot Gardening made in collaboration with Mel Bartholomew, the inventor of Square Foot Gardening.  For those of you who can’t wait to see if you’ve won, the 60min dvd is also available for sale for $24.99 thru Createspace. https://www.createspace.com/298508 It’s a great companion to Mel’s best selling book The All New Square Foot GardeningI hope you enjoy the dvd.

A Sustainable Veggie Garden Design In My Front Lawn

When I first began the journey of removing the grass from my front lawn and installing 5,000 pounds of rotted buffalo manure in 2009, I had no idea where it would lead.
