How to plant bare root fruit trees

  • Soak the tree roots in a tub of water for 3 to 6 hours (not to exceed 24hrs)and never allow the roots to dry out.
  • Dig a hole about twice the size of the current root system. For containers use at least a 15gallon container to start and moving to a 30 gallon container later.
  • Don’t plant the tree too deeply as it cause the trunk to rot.
  • Fill the soil in and around the root system. Press the soil in firmly, but do not pack it tightly. You may consider adding a support stake for it as well.
  • Water the tree generously and often for it’s first year, and create a soil moat around the tree as well, to keep the water from running off and having the water reach the roots.
